           Here is a brief and interesting history about Russian sparkling wine:

  • 1668 – The first champagne wine appears in the province of Champagne, France. Monk Pierre Perignon lays the foundation of modern sparkling wine;
  • 1799 – The first appearance of Russian sparkling wines in Crimea. Production of «Ai-Danil» sparkling wine launched at a plant belonging to Prince Vorontsov;
  • 1890 – Production of domestic sparkling wine is established by Prince Golitsyn  – The founder of «Russian Champagne»;
  • 1928 – The «Soviet Champagne» trademark created with the support of the Council of National Economy;
  • 1969 – Export of first Russian sparkling wine to the West.

           The main method vineyards use to create sparkling wine is Charmat-Martinotti. As a result it provides the exceptional quality of product and certainly makes it affordable for all strata of consumers.            Firstly, «JSC Igristie Vina» – one of the biggest wineries in Russia and it takes the first place in the rating of Russian sparkling wine producers in Russia based on data of the National Alcohol Association.
